Port Albert, Victoria

Port Albert is a historic fishing village located in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. Located on the eastern coast of the state, Port Albert is known for its picturesque waterfront, fresh seafood, and tranquil atmosphere.

Getting There

Port Albert is located approximately 200 kilometers east of Melbourne. The easiest way to get there is by car, either by renting a car or driving your own vehicle. The drive takes approximately 2.5 hours and takes you through scenic countryside and small towns. Alternatively, you can take a train from Melbourne to Traralgon and then take a bus to Port Albert.

Things to Do

  • Visit the Port Albert Maritime Museum to learn about the history of the town and its fishing industry.
  • Take a stroll along the waterfront and enjoy the views of the boats and the water.
  • Try some of the fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants or fish and chips shops.
  • Take a fishing charter out on the water for a chance to catch some fish.
  • Explore the nearby Tarra-Bulga National Park for hiking and wildlife spotting.
  • Visit the nearby towns of Yarram and Foster for more small town charm.

Where to Stay

There are a few options for accommodation in Port Albert, including a caravan park, a hotel, and a few bed and breakfasts. However, many visitors choose to stay in nearby towns such as Yarram or Foster, which offer a wider variety of accommodation options.

When to Visit

Port Albert can be visited year-round, but the best time to visit is in the summer months (December to February) when the weather is warm and sunny. However, if you're a fan of seafood, the Port Albert Seafood Festival in April is a must-visit event.
